Who are you and what do you do?

Mikhail Mitra, Co-founder & Chief Product & Marketing Officer heading products, marketing and growth strategy at Mantra.

1. What was the journey that brought you to your current role?

Have been a wannapreneur all my life and started off my first cottage business by making paper bags as a 13 year old. Did my time in IT companies and hot-shot startups – mostly on the techno-business side of things. Post an experiential MBA, connected with my co-founders, and have been instrumental in scaling the company up.

2. How do you get things done?

Big picture thinking is critical to executing any idea. I like to take a holistic and borderline simplistic approach to work and generally stay off the how-tos/internet research while working on something. Empowering the team and backing them to keep pushing themselves to do better builds an effective system where I can trust my teams to deliver. Having a keen eye for detail is imperative to build quality products. Mediocrity is a death-trap for small organizations like ours.

3. Who are your role models and why?

No specific role models – but I am inspired by people across different spectrums for being agents of change. To name a few: Mahatma Gandhi, Steve Jobs, Novak Djokovic and Elon Musk.

4. What’s the one secret about your field or industry you wish everyone knew?

While the going is tough, the possibilities are endless as this sector is ripe for disruption by technology.

5. What are your predictions for the industry for the next few years?
  • Customer experience will be a central focus for organizations.
  • Disruptive startups will keep creating new business models.
  • Under insured geographies will see unbridled growth through micro-insurance products.
  • Industry behemoths will invest heavily in AI to maintain an edge over competitors.
