Who are you and what do you do?

Digital transformer with human focus: I help companies develop skills and culture for the age of digitalization and ecosystems (industry focus: finance, insurance science, deeptech).

1. What was the journey that brought you to your current role?

Business consultant, journalist, election campaigner, founder, digital marcom-lead, startup-coach, innovation & co-innovation coach … and open-minded networker, whatever I do. In start-up and insurtech: Founded my first own business in 2009, started working as strategist and marcom-planner for corporate spin-offs, built up a first insurtech in 2013, joined Allianz X, startup accelerator in 2015, work on startup collaboration and corporate innovation for leading insurtech companies (Germany, Italy).

2. How do you get things done?

For me personally: Work smart, plan work as well as leisure to ensure real productivity. For good results and effective project management: use network power and sparring partners to get feedback at an early stage, learn, pivot if necessary. For my innovation and change work: focus on motivation first with your teams.

3. Who are your role models and why?

I get a lot of inspiration from many people almost everyday, not a single person or company.

4. What’s the one secret about your field or industry you wish everyone knew?

Insurance (and Finance) is a peoples’ business. Numbers and data are indicators of success, people and culture are it’s origin.

5. What are your predictions for the industry for the next few years?

Three mega-trends, transforming the industry long-term: 1. The industry will become an ecosystem business. Insurtechs and incumbents will converge more and more, collaborate and co-innovate fluently, even cross innovate with partners in other industries like healthcare, smart home, digital platforms etc. 2. On the product- and service-side, cross-industry business models and cooperations will become part of the insurance new-normal, especially embedded insurance or digitally-enabled risk prevention. 3. A great future opportunity for start-ups will not “just” be insurtech in the traditional sense, but additional service to the classic insurance offerings (f.e. IoT based risk prevention) and support technology to transform companies and business models, such as data-management with AI, or digital workflow optimization.
